Adverse reactions to treatment

  • Uncommon side effects

Soreness, bruising, swelling, small haematoma (lump), pain or itching at the site of the Acupuncture treatment. These are unusual minor and will pass in a short amount of time.

Red or purple suction marks at the site of Cupping. These are understood to be part of the therapeutic effect and usually clear in a few days.

Tiredness after treatment is a reminder to rest, and may be part of the therapeutic effect. Conversely, some people feel jittery and full of energy after treatment. These are worth mentioning to Ceda at your follow up consultations, as they may require a change in 'dosage' of the treatment.

  • Very Rare Reactions

Dizziness, or a vasovagal reaction (low blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, vomiting, sweating, dizziness, in extremely rare cases fainting).

If you have ever fainted or felt faint from blood tests or immunisations, please inform Ceda of this prior to treatment. Usually, specific positioning and drinking water will reverse these symptoms. Again, change of 'dose' of treatment will be recommended on follow up.

  • Suspected reaction to herbs

Common side effects of Herbal medicine:

Loose bowels - May be part of the therapeutic effect. Usually resolves within 3 days, if not, have a 3 day break from the herbs and start again at a half dose.

Nausea - try taking your herbs after food. If nausea persists, have a 3 day break from the herbs.

Rashes - have a break from the herbs until rash subsides. Restart the herbs to see if the rash reappears.

Severe allergies are very rare. If you notice tingling or swelling of the lips after ingestion of your herbal medicine, please stop the herbs and seek medical treatment.
